The Vig 8 West occurrence is located on a south facing slope north of Deserted Lake, at an elevation of approximately 220 metres.

The area is underlain by calc-alkaline volcanic rocks of the Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group and basaltic volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation (Vancouver Group). A northwest-striking band of Upper Triassic Quatsino Formation (Vancouver Group) limestone, dipping moderately to the southwest, cuts through the area. These have been intruded by a granodiorite stock of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.

Locally, a silica-sphalerite-galena replacement of limestone occurs at the intrusive contact with sheared diorite of the Head Bay Stock. In 1988, a grab sample (172172) assayed 15.3 per cent zinc and 3.42 per cent lead (Assessment Report 17521).

Nearby, a chalcopyrite-rich skarn is exposed along the same contact. The adjacent diorite hosts pyrite-chalcopyrite veins. In 1988, a grab sample (172167) of the skarn assayed 8.67 grams per tonne gold and 6.13 per cent copper, while sampling of the adjacent diorite and veins yielded up to 0.35 grams per tonne gold and 0.4 per cent copper (Assessment Report 17521).

During 1979 through 1981, Pan Ocean Oil completed programs of geological mapping and geochemical sampling on the area as the Tah 1-19 claims. In 1982, Crystal Mountain Resources completed a program of soil sampling. In 1983, Aberford Resources continued the previous mapping and sampling programs. In 1984, Homestake Canada completed a program of geological mapping and rock sampling. In 1987, Great Keppel Resources completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical sampling, hand trenching and a ground magnetic survey. In 1988, Centaur Resources completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical sampling. In 2007 and 2008, Silverlake Capital completed programs of geochemical sampling and geological mapping on the area. During 2009 through 2013, Homegold Resources completed programs of prospecting, historical literature reviews and air photo interpretations on the area as part of the Head Bay property.

In 2012, Canadian Dehua International Mines Group Inc. completed air photo interpretation on their Head Bay Property, covering the Glengarry and Elaine past producers, the Rob Roy, Head Bay and Vivian prospects, and the Mohawk, Middle Quarry, Upper Quarry and North Tsowwin showings. A 2015 exploration program on the Head Bay property included minimal rock sampling in the VIG area. One grab sample obtained from a 2 metre skarn occurrence assayed 29.4 per cent zinc.
